Nigeria–US Security Cooperation Leads to Precision Airstrikes on Terrorist Targets
The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that sustained security cooperation and intelligence collaboration with the United States have resulted in precision airstrikes against terrorist targets in Nigeria’s North-West region.
In a press release issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigerian authorities stated that the operations were conducted within the framework of structured bilateral security cooperation, aimed at countering the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the Ministry, the partnership with the United States involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of security support, carried out in line with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.
The government emphasized that all counter-terrorism operations remain guided by the protection of civilian lives, national unity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It stressed that terrorist violence—whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities—constitutes an affront to Nigeria’s values and a threat to international peace and security.
The statement further noted that Nigeria continues to work closely with its international partners through established diplomatic and security channels to degrade terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while simultaneously strengthening domestic security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, assuring the public that it will continue to engage relevant partners and provide updates through official channels.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
